The internationally renowned GLOOMAAR Festival returns for its 8th edition at the iconic Neue Gebläsehalle in Neunkirchen, bringing together some of the most influential names in post-rock, post-metal, and atmospheric music.
This year’s lineup features an impressive roster of artists from around the globe:
Mono (JPN), Alex Henry Foster & The Long Shadows (CAN), Bruit ≤ (FRA), Oh Hiroshima (SWE), Glasgow Coma Scale (GER), Overhead, The Albatross (IRL) and Coltaine (GER).
Since its inception, GLOOMAAR Festival has become one of Europe’s best-kept secrets among fans of immersive, cinematic rock soundscapes. Known for its stellar lighting design, sonic diversity, and devoted international crowd, the festival transforms the historic Neue Gebläsehalle — located in the old industrial Hüttenareal — into a breathtaking haven of sound and emotion each year.
Headlining this year’s edition are the legendary Mono from Japan. Formed in Tokyo in 1999, the four-piece band has redefined instrumental post-rock through their orchestral arrangements, emotional dynamics, and signature shoegaze textures. Celebrating their 25th anniversary, Mono recently released their 12th studio album Oath — a moving testament to their boundless artistry. As NME once wrote: “This is music for the gods.”
Co-headliners are Alex Henry Foster & The Long Shadows from Canada. Over the past year, Alex has reached remarkable milestones with his ongoing High Blooming Ritual tour, which has already seen sold-out & low tickets shows, solidifying his place as one of the most compelling voices in today’s independent music scene. He just announces the release of his new single, In the Valley of the Sun (Writing Session).
His recent releases earned multiple ADISQ nominations, including recognition for Kimiyo (2024) and A Measure of Shape and Sounds (2024), while his latest live album, A Nightfall Ritual. debuted on the Billboard charts upon its release in April 2025 and was nominated for Post-Rock Album of the Year at GAMIQ.
Other highlights include:
Bruit ≤ (France) — an experimental post-rock and modern classical quartet blending ambient electronics and sweeping orchestration.
Oh Hiroshima (Sweden) — masters of cinematic crescendos and emotional storytelling, recently signed to Pelagic Records.
Glasgow Coma Scale (Germany) — delivering a unique fusion of ambient soundscapes, heavy riffs, and dynamic intensity.
Overhead, The Albatross (Ireland) — acclaimed for their filmic compositions and genre-bending live energy.
Coltaine (Germany) — closing the festival with a haunting late-night performance of dark psychedelia and post-metal atmospheres.
Set to begin on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 2:30 PM, the Gloomaar Festival offers a one-day deep dive into the world of atmospheric music, blending emotion, artistry, and community. With each edition, the event grows its loyal fanbase across Germany and neighboring countries — uniting music lovers for an unforgettable night of sonic exploration.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of one of Europe’s most immersive post-rock experiences.
Music changed me — and still does.
I'm not particularly good at writing, nor do I know much about post-rock, so I’m not even sure what I’m doing here! 😅
Mostly enjoying melancholic music… I guess there is comfort in sadness for me. That probably made me the perfect target for post-rock when it found me. That said, I enjoy all kinds of music — especially soundtracks, shoegaze, and post-punk.
I’m constantly on the lookout for sounds that will blow my mind — that rare kind of feeling you don’t experience often in a lifetime… Falling in love with a new artist or a new sound... but when it happens, it's priceless.
That’s what happened to me with a few artists, including Alex Henry Foster, Emma Ruth Rundle, Loma, Oiseaux-Tempête, Fugazi, Switchfoot, and maybe a few more…
(Sorry Efrim, but I still love GY!BE 😉)
